Learn How to Turn a Crisis into a Triumph

We all experience a crisis now and then. The crisis could be relatively small like missing an important appointment or it could be something life threatening such as a near death experience or a serious diagnosis. Approximately 70% of people in the US will experience a more severe crisis in their lifetimes.

How is it that one person is completely wiped out, beaten down, and feeling bitter because of a crisis and another person seems to thrive and grow from a crisis emerging even better than before?

In the news, we hear a lot about PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). This disorder is very debilitating and often takes years for relief, if ever.

What you don’t hear about very often is the opposite, PTG- Post Traumatic Growth; where people experience amazing growth from even the most terrifying crisis. According to the Post Traumatic Growth Research Group at UNC Charlotte, post traumatic growth “is positive change experienced as a result of the struggle with a major life crisis or a traumatic event”.

Doctors Richard G. Tedeschi, Ph.D., and Lawrence Calhoun, Ph.D. stated in their 2004 paper “Posttraumatic Growth: A New Perspective on Psychotraumatology” in Psychiatric Times, “the widespread assumption that trauma will often result in disorder should not be replaced with expectations that growth is an inevitable result. Instead, continuing personal distress and growth often coexist.”

Dr. Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and noted Austrian psychotherapist, said; “Life holds potential meaning under any conditions, even the most miserable ones.” Viktor Frankl wrote about the importance of the mind and how a person’s thought life created impact on his or her reality.

In my own personal experience of stopping breathing, going into the light and being unconscious for 12 hours in the summer of 2015 only to awaken and find out that a virus had attacked my heart, and I might have to go on the heart transplant list was a shock and crisis for me. I went from not being on any medication in my late forties to looking at the possibility of surviving maybe one to five years.

After I made it through the first few days of being in shock and seriously ill in ICU on a ventilator, I set my sights on how I could heal. I started searching for stories of anyone who spontaneously healed from my experience. Most of the literature was very grim, but I did find a few stories of spontaneous healing. I started to believe I could heal. I also knew I needed to be happy and around loving people.

Within three weeks, my heart returned to normal functioning. However, during that three weeks, I spoke to my parents every day. I felt more love for my family then I ever had. I felt more gentle and peaceful. I felt like I could “see” more clearly. I was determined to live fully and rest deeply.

I was almost as shocked to hear that my heart had returned to normal as I was shocked by getting sick in the first place.

I soon found that my life was better than ever. I appreciated everything more. I lived more in the present moment. I decided to do more things on my bucket list. I often used the question, “What am I waiting for?” My relationships became deeper. I was so happy to wake up each morning. And I realized I could still live the life of my dreams. All of my dreams could still come true. I didn’t need to stop dreaming just because I had to face something big!

If you are experiencing a crisis, you can increase the potential of turning your crisis into post traumatic growth by:

  • Spending more time with people that you love.
  • Deciding what is most important to you in your life- contemplate the deeper meaning of life.
  • Doing what you can to increase your daily joy. (What makes you laugh and smile? Mine were You Tube videos of animals and babies laughing).
  • Staying positive (my cardiologist actually said that to me). I kept a gratitude journal which I have done for many years.
  • Deepening your spiritual connection and practices. ( A daily prayer practice helped me greatly).
  • Taking action steps to reduce the feeling of powerlessness or helplessness.

I took action by doing research on my condition and other people’s healings. I also reached out to  people who had experienced something similar. I did what I could physically do. I looked at laundry and the dishes as a great gift. The first day I could make the bed without feeling breathless and weak felt like a miracle. Eventually, ten days after a nearly died, I went to a rock concert. I walked slow and took the stairs even slower.

A crisis. big or small, doesn’t have to derail you from your joy and success. I do encourage you to be patient and allow yourself to fully feel all emotions that arise. Even with growth, there will be times of disruption. I still get teary-eyed sometime when I think about waking up in the hospital, not knowing where I was, and seeing my husband and son looking both terrified and relieved at the same time and learning that my daughters were in flight on the way to see me.

And even though my heart is on the low/normal side of functioning. I still have to take five medications every day (My hope is that one day I will be med free) and monitor my blood pressure and sodium intake daily. Instead of thinking, “Why me?” I think, “I am so grateful I am here.” I am so grateful I can walk four miles. I am so grateful I can travel. I am so grateful I can run my business. I am so grateful I can watch my son play sports and dance with my husband and shop all day with my friends.”

You can experience challenges in dealing with your crisis and you can experience growth at the same time. Turn your thoughts to:  How great it is that you are still here on this Earth, able to love, able to be, able to make a difference. There are many examples of people who have thrived in spite of a crisis: Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Oprah Winfrey, Eric Berry, just to name a few.

Many of my clients have risen from dire circumstances and crisis to be joyful, thriving and successful in life.

You have what it takes to live your daily joy. If you want to know how to ignite that spark within Click Here for more information.

12 Days of Joy Day 11 Happy New Years Eve

My day started out amazing because I had a Q and A call with my signature Be the Inspiration Mastermind Group. Every single person in the group was on the call. The questions were brilliant from how to move out of judgement to how to effectively manage saving money while growing a business to how to deal with the feeling that a person “should be” further ahead and more. For almost an hour and half, I  got to be with some of the most compassionate, brilliant, caring, and difference making women I know answering questions and implementing mindset shifting exercises and another thing I loved is the support that these women offer each other.

One thing all of these masterminders had in common is that they all started out with my Optimize program and/or one on one coaching. I have had the chance to be a part of tremendous growth. As I reflect back on 2015 which was filled with my own growth as well as a near death crisis, my greatest professional honor is the work that has happened with this group.

On this new years eve, I am filled with joy as I review 2015 and I am oh so excited about 2016.

Everything in 2015 didn’t work out perfectly for me (I almost ended up on the heart transplant list before a miraculous healing). There were some goals that didn’t quite happen the way I imagined, but so much of the year was simply wonderful. I published a new book Relax Into Inspired Action. I traveled to the Bahamas again with one of my best friends, I visited one of my clients in LA, I mentored professionals at CBS Studios, I traveled to Minnesota for a long visit with family, and I took my son to the Peyton Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana. I received a miraculous healing after a virus attacked my heart muscle and caused it to fail. I finally got a recent family pic of all of my children together (almost impossible with 6 and some living in different states). I saw Journey in concert (my favorite band) Plus Motley Crue, Styx, Def Leopard and a few other concerts sprinkled in. What I value most about 2015 is my friends and family. Since the day I almost died, I have talked to my parents every day and we pray together. I cherish that. I cherish the conversations with people and the shared joy.

A friend said to me, “You must be really happy to put 2015 behind you after the rough year you had.” I blinked for a minute because I wasn’t sure what he was talking about.  I thought my year was great. Then I realized he meant the whole almost dying thing. I don’t look at my life in a way where I would ever say I had a rough year. I may have had a few rough moments, like stopping breathing for several minutes and waking up on a ventilator twelve hours later and not remembering anything from those 12 hours. When I woke up though, I was giddy and euphoric because I was still alive. I knew I had more to do and so much more life to live.

When you review your 2015, be sure to see the good and celebrate what worked, and anything left undone or anything that you wish could be a “do-over”; create that for yourself in 2016. But let go of any feeling bad emotion and allow yourself to feel joy.

I am sending you joy vibes right now.

Jan 1, I am hosting a free call- How to Create a Joy Filled 2016. No opt in is required. Just Click Here and add the call to your calendar. Happy New Year and Let’s talk tomorrow on the call.

12 Days of Joy Day 9

12 Days of Joy Day 9 – Prosperity

One of the terrific benefits from increasing joy in your life is that you raise your energy vibration and then manifesting your goals and attracting prosperity becomes easier. Abundance is a natural result of joy. As you feel better and happier, you attract your matching energy vibration to you. Deciding that joy is one of the most important things to focus upon is an amazing way to create a prosperous new year where you live your life your way on your terms. Make the difference you desire in your community, your world. It all starts with joy.

A simple way to quickly tap that joy vibration and turn it into abundance and prosperity is to use your appreciation exercise that we talked about earlier in this series. But let’s add a twist. Write out your appreciation list and include ten or more things that you truly appreciate right now. Feel the appreciation deep in your heart. Then, make a list of ten or more things that you are trying to manifest like you have them right now.

Example of a future appreciation list like I have it now:

Thank you for my completely healed heart.

Thank you for my trip to London.

Thank you for my new clients in my Joy of Business: Relax Into Attracting Clients Workshop

Thank you for my retreat for my mastermind clients.

Thank you for a retreat home in Sedona.

Thank you for inspiring millions of lives right now.

Thank you for all of the help and support I need right now.

When you do this exercise, you bring your feelings into your affirmations which gives them more power.

A step that many people leave out is letting go. After you fully feel the feelings and affirm your future manifestations like they exist right now, then let go of your attachment. I like to say a statement like, “This is so much fun” or “And so it is” or “This or something better” or “All is well”. Then clench your fist hard and then release the muscles. As you release the muscles,  see your goals and dreams being set free to take on a life of their own. This creates a light feeling and keeps you away from desperately wanting something to happen. This whole experience is about allowing and not forcing. Then go about your day feeling and being filled with joy and happiness. Try this exercise today.

Your special invitation: I am hosting a complimentary coaching call on New Year’s Day called How to Create a Joy Filled New Year. You don’t need to opt in. Just click on the link and then save the date and time to your calendar Click Here

12 Days of Joy Day 8

12 Days of Joy Day 8

Increase your joy in your life by deciding you want more joy. Happiness and joy come from within. No amount of outer achievements, accomplishments, or wealth accumulation will create joy for you. Sustainable joy comes from within.

I remember going through a period in my life where I would go to sleep and wonder if I would wake up in a good mood or not. It seemed out of my control. Some days I would wake up full of energy and happiness and other days I would wake up in a “mood”. I began a quest to find out how to be happy and to learn what made people happy. After years of studying happiness, the truth is stunningly simple. Joy and happiness are daily choices.

I learned that I could be happy if I decided to be happy. I also learned that there were certain rituals that set me up for more happiness, peace, and joy in my day.

I learned to start my day with appreciation. I write an appreciation list every day. I write out positive affirmations. I start each day with prayer. I also light candles, use incense, and essential oils. I say thank you at every opportunity.  These rituals are grounding and help me be centered. I have worked with many clients over the years to help them bring more joy into their personal lives and their businesses.

I would love to hear about your happiness turning point. Please comment below. And I would love to chat with you about creating more Joy in your life and your business, contact me.

Peace and Joy,

12 Days of Joy Day 3 Celebrate

Cool Text 12 Days _of Joy 155434107789626

Today is Day 3 of 12 Days of Joy… Our topic is Celebration!

Celebrations allow your joy to be fully expressed. The very nature of celebrating radiates joy through your life. But celebrations are not always filled with joy. Sometimes they are filled with strain, tension, and stress.

Much of the strain, tension, and stress is related to expectations. You may expect everything to be “perfect” and then feel let down. Or you might expect that the person who seems to always cause a scene, will cause a scene. Then the stress of just waiting for that moment is a joy stealer.

What if you could truly feel the joy of your celebrations? What if everything worked out for everyone’s highest good?

A terrific exercise is to visualize your celebration ahead of time. See people enjoying themselves. See yourself experiencing joy. Imagine the feeling of inner peace. Allow the celebration to flow.

Recently, my husband and I attended a Christmas Party at our twenty somethings daughters’ apartment. The group was mixed in terms of age and it was wonderful. I loved seeing how my three daughters interacted with their friends and the older adults at the party. I loved meeting more of their friends and was able to appreciate how wonderful their friends were.

Their apartment had moved from the “college apartment vibe” to “a young professional vibe”. Afterward, I realized how much of my time celebrating is spent with other couples my own age and my teenage sons friends. A new experience was refreshing.  Part of this new experience was me staying in “hands off  mode” in terms of planning the party and I also didn’t feel like I had to jump in and be hostess. Ahead of time, I imagined myself as relaxed and friendly.

I allowed this celebration to unfold for me and it was filled with joy and happiness.

Journal exercise: What if your celebrations  could be filled with joy, no matter what? What would that look like?

I would love to hear how you feel about your holiday celebrations and how you create and maintain your joy. Please post your comments.

Did you miss yesterday’s special on Optimize? You can still get it today.

12 Days of Joy Day 1

Cool Text 12 Days _of Joy 155434107789626

Welcome to my annual 12 Day Holiday Event on my blog. This year the featured topic is 12 Days of Joy. Experience more joy in your life every day for 12 days. Bring in more happiness, freedom and success over the next 12 days. Each day I will share ideas on how you can truly live a more joy filled life – in your personal life and your professional life. Please share your comments each day. I will be holding a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of the 12 days. Every time you comment, your name will go into the drawing.  And I will also be sprinkling in some free gifts and some awesome deals on my courses and coaching.

Day 1 Bring more joy into your life by letting the past go.  Do you ever wish that your parents were more loving? Or maybe  do you wish you didn’t grow up in financial struggle? Or that your parents stayed together? Or that you went to the college of your choice? Or that you would have chosen a different mate? Or that you would have made different decisions in your career and life? and so on…

Anytime, you say the words, “I wish” or “Could have” or “Would have” or “Should have”, you allow something other than the present moment to control you.

“The past has no power over the present moment.”
Eckhart Tolle.

I love this quote. Your life is what you make it right now. It’s a moment by moment choice. Every person has a choice to make – stay stuck in the past and blame the past or take responsibility and make your moment right now, a great one.

Most people have something painful in the past, but making a decision to let it go and make a difference now, is a pivotal point in your journey. Letting the past go allows freedom to rush in and often you will also feel a rush of love in your heart for yourself and others.

Letting go of the past will bring more joy to your holiday celebrations. As the anger of past hurts melts away, you are free to truly celebrate and be present with each other. If nothing else happened, but you merely let go of the past and chose to live today as best you can, you have probably taken the biggest step you can take in your life.

Holding a grudge or any other bad feeling is a happiness and prosperity blocker. If you want more business, better opportunities, a better job,and more, decide right now to let go of the past. If someone said to you, “You can have everything you want in life, if you just let go of your stories about the past.” Would you be willing? Absolutely.

You probably find it easy to see it when someone else is stuck in the past, but it is harder to see it in yourself. Take a quick pulse check on your own life. When you think about your goals, why haven’t you accomplished them yet? Notice the reasons you give. This will give you clues to the hold your past may have on you. If you say, “I am not good with money because no one taught me” or “My business partner cheated me” or “my spouse cheated on me”, “my parents were crazy,” etc… you will start to see a pattern.  If you assign reasons (excuses) other than you haven’t done it yet, you are hanging on to a past story.

When I nearly died this past summer, I learned to let go of the story of illness. I needed to see myself as well and had to stop focusing on the scary experience of ICU. I taught myself to define myself in a way that transcended the serious health condition that I faced. I remember saying, “I am more than what it says on these pieces of paper” when I left the hospital with hundreds of pages of diagnosis. How did I want to live my life? I wanted to live in this moment. I wanted to live and life fully, with joy and happiness.

Recently, my family attended the Denver Zoo Lights Event. We walked around for an hour and half in a magical world of lights and animals. Just the fact that I walked with everyone a mere five months after my hospitalization is a miracle. My hubby (of over 20 years) and I shared a smooch in the pic below:

Stop identifying yourself with the past. Start your new story right now.

5 Keys to More Joy

Happy Holidays from my family to yours

Bringing more joy into your life every day doesn’t require great effort, it is more about mindfulness and making a conscious decision to feel more joy. Here are five ways you can start experiencing more joy right now.

1. Decide that whatever you are doing right now, you will make it more fun. If that means turning on music or letting your inner goofiness show up, just deciding to add fun will help.

2. If something is overwhelming you, let it go. I have always baked Christmas cookies every year. I have been having so much fun preparing for the holidays this year, but baking started to feel overwhelming. Then, I just decided I wasn’t going to do it. I instantly felt great. This means letting go of a worry habit, too.

3. Pace yourself. Take frequent breaks. If you are at work, take breaks for water and deep breaths. Allow yourself to pause what you are doing and reflect. Let your thoughts unclutter and allow your thinking to become clear. Be fully present. Redirect your thoughts to an empowering mindset.  I call this my “heart thinking right” attitude.

4. Show compassion for yourself and others. Notice if someone is struggling and show appreciation and kindness.Create a daily appreciation practice. Create a commitment for ultimate self-care.

5. Build community. Support small businesses. Support positive change.Get involved in a way that makes you feel like you make a difference.

If you have thought about creating more joy, freedom, happiness, and success through business and/or life coaching, I have an option for you to work through one of my most popular ecourses and you can get more support by adding three- thirty minute one on one phone coaching sessions with me at an extra 40% off for a limited time. The ecourse ends up being only $69 and the ecourse plus one on one coaching is $226.
If you would rather schedule your one on one sessions in the New Year, you can lock in your savings by getting them now and then book your time in January if you like.
Save an extra 40% (Did you know the ecourse is also filled with bonuses- for example: you get three months of my Optimize group coaching program and unlimited email support)   Click Here to learn more

Happiness starts first with a decision. You decide that you want happiness and that it is a now thing instead of a someday thing. I learned that not only could I feel happy pretty much every day, but also that the very happiness I was feeling was the key to achieving all of my goals. I have been helping clients for years to be happier and to step into that moment of truly feeling that they are living the lives that they want to be living. Start shifting your happiness and success to a higher level right now.

I only have 6 spots for one on one coaching at this price and when I do this once a year offer, they do get booked. If it’s important to you, take advantage of this today.

Create More Feeling Good Vibes in Your Life

Fourth of July celebrations are almost here. I love summer vacations and patriotic celebrations. I get so excited about all of the fun, and I am also really excited about my clients, too. I am headed off for a 17 day vacation that will take me and my son to Minneosta, Wisconsin, Michigan, and New Orleans,  but I will still be in touch with my inner circle of clients for most of my vacation. I am taking the July 3rd through the 5th to just boat and put my feet up and sort of disappear from technology for a few days.

Over the past few weeks, I have had many conversations with people about money-money in biz, money in life, lack of money, stress about money-  so I am sharing with you a great approach to creating more feeling good vibes regarding money and you can apply this to any area of your life, not just money.

How can you handle that money struggle in your life? The answer lies in how you feel about money and how you feel about the likelihood of abundance coming your way.

The key is to shift your mindset and feelings away from “struggle”, and towards feeling better and better about your money and finances.  Feeling good is a vibe that brings your goals and desires to you.  But what do you when you are feeling bad? Pay attention to the feeling, notice the feeling, examine the feeling, and accept the feeling. As you accept all of your feelings, you allow yourself to process them instead of stuff them down only to have them bubble up later. As you process your feeling, you will notice the belief that is driving the feeling.

Underneath a feeling, is a core thought and belief.

When you find yourself in struggle, ask- what is the belief here? For example your belief might be, I’m not good enough or I am terrible at managing my money, etc. Once you see what the belief is, you can shift it energetically through meditation, prayer, tapping, energy healing, journaling, affirmations, etc. Decide what the replacement belief will be for you. This is important.

As you release a belief that doesn’t serve you, you want to lock in a new belief that is powerful.

A powerful new belief might be: I am a great money manager, I am great at attracting clients, I am worthy, etc. You can lock it in through writing affirmations, EFT, visualization, meditation, or prayer or other energetic exercises.  This is an energetic process. It is important to truly shift the belief instead of trying to talk yourself out of a belief. In my coaching groups, we work with many techniques that create immediate shifts. Members of my tribe often experience changes in the moment. It doesn’t need to take weeks, months, or years to have profound shifts.

You don’t need to go over every detail of your past, but if something comes up, face it and process those feelings, get to the core belief, and then shift it.

“Look for good things about where you are, and in your state of appreciation, you lift all self-imposed limitations – and all limitations are self-imposed – and you free yourself for the receiving of wonderful things.” Abraham Hicks

Money flows in when you are not thinking about having to get money. Money flows in from multiple sources, when you are truly focused on feeling good about what you are doing and living the present moment fully.  If you think it has to be hard, then it is hard; if you decide it can be easy, natural, and flowing- you have opened the door. If you think attracting clients is hard, it’s going to be hard.If you create thoughts of ease and flow around whatever you want to bring into your life, you will be more relaxed and this is a much more appealing energy. Think about this. Do you like signing up for things when you feel like the person or company is desperate? No. But when the conversation and communication is easy and you feel the service can make a big impact for you, do you sign up? Yes. Most likely.

f you are serious about wanting to grow your business, I invite you to learn what will work for you and your own style of growth in this complimentary strategy session with mehttp://www.lifeisjoyful.org/20min.html

Fear Shows Up Right When You are Doing Something Big

I woke up this morning with no voice. I mean zero. A whisper barely came out. It took a few minutes for it to sink in. I make my living with my voice through coaching, webinars, radio interviews and so on. I felt a little bubble of panic, then denial. Then I went back to sleep. I thought that when I woke up I would be fine, I woke up again, still no voice. I thought about the interviews coming up with my new book release of Relax Into Inspired Action and suddenly, I didn’t feel very relaxed.

Relax book cover
I thought, What do I know about throat cures? I made a homemade honey, coconut oil, and lemon concoction. It felt soothing, but still no voice. I even posted in social media to get a few more ideas. And I had more cures to try.
I know every physical condition has a spiritual element related to it as well. An inner voice was telling me that this happened because there was some part of me that felt vulnerable publishing this new book. I remember telling my mother that I felt that this is my most important work to-date. I deeply appreciated what I had created, so what was the problem? I realized that it is this little thing called, “Fear of Being Seen” that many women in business feel at various times. I have coached many people through it. It was now showing up for me, which is kind of funny, because it’s definitely not my first book and I have been on hundreds- probably thousands of radio interviews. It is the truth, that fear shows up right when you are doing something big. As soon as I could put my finger on the fear, it released and I felt free of it.
I surrendered to the laryngitis. I dropped the “fighting it” attitude. I knew that I had key people in my life praying for me and sending me healing vibes. I relaxed and decided to be patient. I started feeling better and better. My voice is still a bit husky, but I’m not worried about it anymore. I am back to feeling relaxed and being in the present moment.
In order to be successful in business, there needs to be an inner strength that will carry you through the ups and downs. There needs to be a core belief that you can and will do and learn what you need. And there needs to be support along the way. I have coached many women in business to create the growth they want.

Here is what one of my clients had to say:
“It’s hard to put into words what attending the Relax Into Attracting Clients workshop has done for both me and my business. Before I met Sheri, I was looking for a mentor who had the magic mix of the spiritual and the intensely practical. For me, Sheri strikes exactly the right balance between the two. Every time I read my notes from the course, a new and brilliant suggestion leaps out at me and inspires me anew to take action. Sheri demystifies the process of attracting clients, making it easily attainable for all attendees, whatever their business or current level of experience or confidence. At the same time, her workshops push us all further than we would ever have ventured alone, safe in the knowledge that she has been there and done that. I have already implemented many of the suggestions gleaned from this course and the positive results have shown up immediately. It has been extremely valuable to learn from the experience of the other group members and I value the camaraderie amongst the group – we are all in this together, learning and sharing as we go along. If you are looking for a clear, easy-to-follow route to growing your mailing list and finding more customers and clients with practical exercises, inspired action steps, expert advice and a high level of encouragement and support then look no further!”
